History of Building

Portal Elementary School, home of the Stars, opened its doors in the fall of 2003 to accommodate the Papillion La Vista Community Schools district's growth in the early 2000s.

Since its establishment, Portal Elementary has undergone several updates and improvements to keep pace with educational advancements. A major renovation took place in the early 2010s, which included the addition of new classroom wings and improved technology infrastructure. These enhancements have ensured that Portal continues to provide a modern and effective learning environment for its students.

Proudly displaying green and gold as its colors, the Stars mascot symbolizes aspiration, achievement, and the limitless potential of each student – qualities that Portal Elementary strives to nurture in its learners.

Portal Elementary has built a strong reputation for its excellent literacy programs, reflecting its commitment to providing students with a solid foundation in reading and writing. The school has also been recognized for its efforts in promoting cultural diversity, fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates and learns from various cultures and backgrounds.

In addition to its academic strengths, Portal Elementary has been a leader within the district in implementing positive behavior support systems. This initiative has contributed to creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere for all students.

Portal Elementary upholds the district's motto "Be Known for Greatness" by excelling in literacy education and cultural awareness, helping students become well-rounded, high-achieving individuals. Through its focus on foundational skills, cultural understanding, and positive behavior, Portal prepares its students not just for academic success, but for becoming engaged and responsible citizens in an increasingly diverse world.
